I will always take every opportunity to educate myself and become a more
knowledgeable owner and breeder of the lively dachshund. I believe that as a
responsible breeder, my goal must always be to produce dogs that are correct
to the dachshund standard, that are healthy, and have loving & stable
personalities. I know that goal can only be reached if  I research the genetics,
conformation, and personalities of the dogs and bloodlines I breed.

I also believe that as a responsible breeder of dachshunds, it is my
obligation to actively exhibit & show them in the conformation ring. I must
admit, I also enjoy it VERY much and have been "bitten" by the show bug!

Searching for a Your new Doxie??

Please be careful when searching for a puppy or adult dachshund.  Like most breeds, our beloved
dachshund has been over-bred without regard to their health & conformation. Irresponsible
"breeders" have hurt what qualities make a dachshund, a dachshund.
Also, you will find too many breeders misrepresenting puppies as something they are not all in the
name of GREED. I recommend that consumers educate themselves, and learn all you can before
making the decision to purchase a dachshund puppy.

Things to watch out for;

Light red dachshunds that are described as "Creams" and "English Creams". The only way to tell
them apart is by looking at their pedigrees. Be aware that this is not full-proof either, because many
dachshunds have been mis-registered by ignorant and sometimes unscrupulous breeders.
Important to note is the fact that "cream" must be shown or carried in both the sire & dam lines to
produce a cream - E.G. you
cannot breed a blk/tan ( out of only red & blk/tan lines - no cream ) to a
red ( cream carrier ) and produce a true cream! It is genetically IMPOSSIBLE! So do your research
and be very careful when looking for a "cream" dachshund.

Breed Champions & Genetic Testing of Breeding Stock

I believe that when you are looking for your lifelong friend, it is important to look for and
appreciate Breed Champions in a puppy's pedigree. A championship is not always an indication of
the "best of the best", but in general, when you see several champions in a puppy's 3 or 4 generation
pedigree,  it is
more likely that puppy is correct to the dachshund standard.

Responsible breeders who believe in the value of breed champions, are more likely to pull an
unhealthy adult from their breeding program. They also understand it is their REPUTATION on
the line each and every time they sell a dog.. so it's less likely they will sell you an unhealthy dog
that also carries their kennel name!

Responsible breeders go to additional expense to health test their breeding stock, with the goal of
producing correct dachshunds that will be healthy for a lifetime!! Please keep this in mind when
looking for your new family member - consider more than just the cost of a new puppy, but also the
bloodlines & pedigree, as well as the health of the sire & dam of your prospective puppy!

Also remember - NEVER purchase a puppy from a Pet Store!! Let me say it again,
NEVER BUY A PUPPY FROM A PET STORE!!! Where do they come from?? PUPPY
MILLS!!  Again, where do they come from? PUPPY MILLS, where dogs are abused and
neglected, and even maimed & "thrown away" once their breeding days are over!!!
You certainly won't get a long term genetic health guarantee when purchasing a
puppy from a pet store or a puppy mill!! Why? Because they do
not take care to
ensure they are breeding
only healthy dogs. I've even seen some of the stores offering
guarantees, but they certainly do not test their breeding stock... they make enough
$$$ off the puppies they do sell, that it won't hurt their pocket books to give you a
replacement pup when yours comes down sick!!!  They don't care what they sell you..
